It was a proud moment for HEC on the launching of in-house designed and manufactured EARTH 5.0, the 5 Cubic Meter capacity hydraulic shovel by Honorable Secretary of DHI, Dr. A R Sihag in the inauguration ceremony organized at the Shop Floor of HMBP in presence of HEC CMD Shri M K Saxena, HEC’s Director Finance Smt. Arundati Panda, HEC Director Marketing Shri R. S Chakravarty. On this auspicious occasion, HEC also invited its stakeholders. The dignitaries present were Jt Secretary DHI, Smt Sukriti Likhi; Director(Technical/CCL), Mr.V.K.Srivastava; Director(Personnel)/CCL, Mr. R.S Mohapatra; Director(Mining), Mr. S.K.Bhattacharya; along with representation from MECON, BEML, IIT Kharagpur, IIT-ISM Dhanbad NIFFT, etc. During inauguration of this state-of-the-art hydraulic excavator, hoist, crawl & swing operation was shown and the team involved in the R&D was felicitated.
The state-of-the-art hydraulic excavator EARTH 5.0 has been designed to meet optimum fuel consumption, high machine availability, ease in maintenance and electronically controlled advance hydraulic system for faster cycle time. The operating weight of the machine is 90T with provision of bucket capacity ranging 4 - 6.5 Cubic Meter. The machine is powered by 405 KW diesel engine with optional electric drive. The machine has been designed keeping in mind the operator’s comfort and safety. It provides fully air conditioned cabin and easily accessible features for routine servicing and cleaning. HEC developed this machine with financial support from DHI against new product development scheme under Capital Goods Policy 2016.
Post-inauguration, HEC also organized a Panel discussion on the theme ‘Innovations and Development in Earth Moving machines’. On the theme secretary DHI, Dr. A R Sihag has stressed for better synergy in between industry partner academician and end-user. The industry experts presented the trends of market requirement and technology which facilitated an effectual discussion among the users, manufacturers and researchers under the guidance of the Secretary, DHI.
Manufacturing and assembly of the first prototype is in progress and the Excavator is scheduled for trial testing in May' 2019.
